I am generally tolerant of cover versions of songs. I like a lot of them, and do not automatically hold that performing a song after someone has done a "definitive version" is sacrilege, especially where the "definitive" performer didn't write the song. Having said that, however...

Whoever thought it was a good idea to have Faith HIll cover "Piece of My Heart" should be taken out and shot. On iTunes just now, I listened to a snippet of the FH version after listening to the Janis Joplin. Blech.

I am currently annoyed because iTunes has the horrid group mugging of John Lennon's "Across the Universe" from the Grammys for sale (I'm sorry, but worthy causes are no excuse for this sort of thing), but don't offer the Joss Stone/Melissa Etheridge tribute to Janis. I mean, why not offer it for sale, with the proceeds going to breast cancer research organizations?

Speaking of Melissa Etheridge... I have always thought she was an uncommonly beautiful woman. Seeing her Sunday night with no hair reinforced that belief.
