(no subject)

I made a tightly filtered post this afternoon. I have checked the filters several times, both that the post was made to the correct filter and that the people who I thought were in the filter were the only people in the filter.

People who were not in the filter saw the post. I doublechecked the post again -- and my filter again -- and both of those seems to be in place. I have no idea why people saw the post that were not on the filter.

The post has been made private. The post was intended to allow me to express my frustration to a narrow circle of people, and that did not happen. I had filtered the post in the first place not to inflict it upon people, and that clearly did not work. Eh, I'll live.

I would say that this would teach me not to post when I have a level 8 migraine, but I did not misfilter, so I am not sure what lessons to draw from this.

Ooh ooh! I know I know!

The lesson is that the internet is pure unadulterated evil?

Yes, you know, I wonder about the accuracy of the filtering.. for my own posts. I mean.. generaly I am not writing life or deal stuff.. but I do sometimes filter in order to talk to a small group of folks. and certainly want the filter to work!
ah, so much for depending on technology.

Hope your migraine goes away soon

I have had something similar happen in the past. Here's what I think happened with my posts, and perhaps the same thing happened to you. There appears to be something that recently got broken with the filter posting on the web. If you make a filtered post, and then you preview it in any way, the permissions get set back to default. Of course, this happens on the ones that you are MOST likely to NOT want the world to see. I have been experimenting with an off-line posting tool, but haven't used it enough yet to really know what I'm doing. Akien assures me that that has never happened when he used this tool, however. Note that it did not used to be this way--I used to be able to set the filter at the beginning of my session, and it would stay that way. No longer. It resets every single time that I spell-check or preview, such that I have to remember to go back and RE-set it right before posting. VERY annoying. I recommend posting everything as private, and then UPDATING the post right after to whatever filter you want. That should take care of the problem. Another layer of insurance is to have yourself on your friends list, and go look at your friends list immediately after posting. That way, if there's an error like this, you can catch it as soon as possible.

Sorry this happened to you.

(hugs)

Commiserative comment.

Sorry. :/

A similar thing happened to me (on the way to the forum). Long story short, I belong to a *neighborhood* yahoo group & there is this crazy (quite, quite crazy) guy who has been posting bizarre shit on the message board & people were up in arms about getting him booted from the list & I sent my 2 cents in AND FORGOT TO TURN OFF MY SIGNATURE with my name, address, and phone number. At least you tried to keep the comment private. I basically sent a crappy comment to the neighborhood nut with all but a map to my front door. (sigh) It's been near a week, so I'm assuming that he has bigger issues to deal with.

Sometimes LJ misses a filter, although it doesn't happen very often. I just go back re-set them and save again. It seems to always take care of the issue.

Lesson ... never trust technology.

BTW .. I dont know if I saw it or not
