I'm happier....

Reassurance from my LJ friends helped. An apology from one sweetie and a lovely talk with another sweetie helped. And watching LOTR with my smart-ass twelve year old helped a lot.

When Elrond tells how Isildur refused to destroy the ring, James comments: "Just like today. Everybody's gotta take home a souvenir."

Throughout the movie I had been commenting on the landscape saying "You know, there really are places in New Zealand that look like that." When the scene with the monster in the water at the gates of Moria arrives, James turns to me and says "Yes, Mom, I know: there really are monsters in New Zealand that look like that."

This kid is a lot of fun to hang out with. I figure I must be doing something right in his case...

Do you have the box set? With the National Geographic Special disk? Awesome. Very good stuff on exactly how they got from the real places in New Zealand to the "slightly sideways" world of Middle Earth. The more I watch about this movie (these movies), the more in awe I am of Peter Jackson. The man's a genius. As are all the folks at WETA. Wow. Josh and Jen have our set right now--if you haven't seen the extra stuff, you might ping Josh to see if you could watch some WITH him. Something like 8 hours of supplemental material, maybe more, and I loved every minute of it.

And yes, that was a great comment by your kid. I agree, you must be doing something right!
