Hey [personal profile] geekchick, have you seen this?

DDR as exercise regime.

Brag brag brag

[livejournal.com profile] rlpowell has been using DDR for exercise for over a year. He passed a 9-foot this weekend. He's so good that sometimes he gets applause from onlookers (he prefers to use public machines, though he built his own DDR machine himself last summer).

i have friends who have been using this game as their primary source of excercise for several years now....

One LJ friend of mine claims that the worst thing about this is the knee trouble he developed about two years after he started exercising this way.

I like it as an exercise method myself. I could have done without the weight loss emphasis in the article - I had to read all the way down to the end before seeing a grudging mention of the health benefits of exercise by itself separate from weight loss.

Would the universe please get out of my head!? I was just pondering this last night. I've been considering going back to it as a source of excercise. The only problem would be prying my father away from the TV long enough that I could actually DO it. :P

Yeah, I saw it earlier today. The game even comes with a workout mode that lets you track things like time spent and calories burned (if you want) over an individual session or cumulatively. The biggest problem I have with it is that it's hardly low-impact, and it's caused my knees to ache a few times (although laying off for a few days seems to make any pain go away). It's a good workout.
