Force feeding culture

So I am stuck in a recliner. The kids want to watch videos. So I put in "Citizen Kane" and announce that anyone who correctly figures out who Rosebud is before the end of the movie gets a dollar.

Next up: Casablanca.

Depending on their geekitude, they might appreciate your pointing out all the incredible special effects. If you need help identifying them Ebert's commentary track on the DVD is fantastic. It gave me a whole new appreciation of it seeing what a special effect extravaganza it is.

I loved Ebert's commentary. You never think about a movie like that having special effects, but it does.

Using the leading pronoun of "who" isn't exactly fair.

They'll love Casablanca though.

"I was mis-informed," indeed.

Actually, when they discovered Rosebud's identity, they both said "You said "who" not "what"!" So yes, I guess it wasn't fair : )

The younger (more melodramatic) one did indeed like Casablanca, if for no other reason than he now understood the references he's seen elsewhere which draw from Rick's speech at the airport.

Casablanca is one of my very favourite movies! :) That said, I have yet to see Citizen Kane.

Hopefully

This approach at least takes some pressure off you...
