Kevin insisted he wanted a cactus for his birthday. I was not sure what a nine-year-old would want with a cactus, but hey, it's his birthday. It's a lot better than other things he could have asked for.

Already this morning, he has put his new CD player on the cactus, insisting after a moment "Hey! Let me hear that, cactus!"

He now has taken the monkeys out of he traveling Barrel of Monkeys game that sarahh gave him and is hanging them on the cactus. "It's like a Christmas tree!" (At least until I hear "Damn, that hurt.")

By the way, the cactus's name is Steve, because "that's a good name for a cactus."
