There was a time when I entertained thoughts of asking to keep a small bit of bone from a terminally ill loved one after his death, to make into a talisman piece of jewelry to wear.

This desire lessened after the friend gave me a piece of jewelry that he made for me himself (the ring that I wear). Coincidentally, he is a student of GIA, the gemology institute that the article mentions. And he is still with us, happily - he'll give Death a struggle, yet.

okay, this is way, way, way weirder than having some of my dog's DNA made into a pendant (a service I was offered at the last vet's visit, when they were drawing blood anyway)
