If most of them are television or movie characters, that's because I tend to prefer to read nonfiction, and because Mr. Darcy, Heathcliff, and Rochester just don't do anything for me.

Yeah, I was trying not to pick more than one character from one show -- it a close call, but Olivia barely edges out George. Elliot lands on my "TV characters you'd most like to whap over the head with a large stick" list
