I hesitate to compare numbers, simply because people are not potatoes. Even if the number of civilians killed on both sides were strictly equal, it wouldn't change the underlying moral questions.

I think it's right on the money. It explains a lot -- although it doesn't really explain the U.S. behavior in enabling Israel.

I think the US has a long running admiration for Israel that has transcended political parties. We've been strong supporters of Israel since 1947, and even moreso since 1967.

Add to this the fact that many, many neocons are jewish people who hold Israel in a position of special reverence, and you can see how the US government is predisposed to excuse Israeli excesses.
