[Sorry I haven't done this for a while... it was a rough week]
Since March is Women's History Month (my field in college) I will start off asking about notable women.
Victoria Claflin Woodhull was the first woman in America to do what?
Victoria Claflin Woodhull was the first American woman to run for president, in 1872 on the People's Party ticket (Frederick Douglass was her running mate). She was also one of the proprietors of Woodhull and Claflin's Weekly, a weekly magazine that took stands in favor of free love, women's suffrage, and socialism. I mean, you'd think a platform like that would be unbeatable, especially in those wild days of the 1870s!
For the record, I'm in favor of "free love" (i.e., polyamory), women's suffrage, and socialism (i.e., welfare and a government that cares about keeping corporations from screwing over private citizens.)
