Although it flopped at the box office when it was first released in 1938, Bringing Up Baby with Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant is now recognized by critics as one of the best screwball comedies of all time. Who -- or what -- was the "Baby" mentioned in the title?

Baby was a full grown pet leopard owned by Hepburn's character, a rich and madcap heiress. Grant plays a stuffy scientist who catches her eye.

An aside: according to IMdB, Bringing Up Baby was the first major movie to use the word "gay" to mean "homosexual".

I love this movie almost as much as "Arsenic and Old Lace".

Our local library has this flick -- it's really ... wacky, I think is a pretty good word for it.

"A hundred and fifty dollars for a pair of swans. I can't believe that they really cost that much."

"Well, if you'd just started running when I told you to, you wouldn't have had to pay."

"When a man is wrestling a lepoard in the middle of a pond, he is in no position to run!"

Never seen the movie, but interestingly I remember a clip of Cary Grant in a frilly robe jumping up and down yelling "I just turned gay all of the sudden!"
