Another bridge

This morning, I e-mailed my rector my last post. I received this response:

Pat,

This is a good place to start. Thanks for having confidence in your rector....

Pat, I will never reject you. (Even if you become a Unitarian. ;-) ) As we spoke before, we live in an age when all the old rules are being rewritten. On the one hand, sex is overrated. On the other hand, there is a lot of power there. The choice to embrace polyamory is also a choice to embrace certain risks, some of which we can identify, others of which are too deep to discern.

My own understanding of human formation and covenant and community is not anchored in prejudice or bias. Rejecting people tends to be a response of fear. I may challenge a perspective (polyamorous for example) but I will never challenge you.

You are free and your freedom is sacred, rooted in the eternal source of your being. I will provided what limited wisdom I can from my limited perspective. You will make your life's choices. And then I will stand by you (if you let me) and endure with you whatever consequences come.
