It was a good retreat. (Quote of the weekend: "Men and chocolates are not interchangeable.")

And I came home to an e-mail from my friend at seminary, to whom I had sent this.:

"I have to admit to being surprised by your news, and would be lying if I said that it didn't concern me. And your post was right -- I don't particularly *approve,* but I do still love you and want to be in relationship with you. There's a lot I don't approve of in this world -- thank God I'm not the judge of all humanity. If I were your rector, you would be welcome as always in the congregation. And as your friend, you will not get away from me that easily. :-)"

So it was a pretty good weekend. : >
I was just thinking how much wider my world has gotten in the last couple of years. I count among my friends both a brilliant, chivalrous, semi-conservative Episcopal seminary student in Texas and a warm, loving, wonderful transgendered bi pagan in L.A. And a witty, liberal, stay at home mother of four who objects to buying chocolate on social justice grounds. And a funny, slightly cynical, hardworking single mother who is able to make me laugh more than any person I know. And a (generally) good-natured, poly rocket-scientist and sometime Arctic explorer. And many more... People of different races, genders, relationship styles and sexual orientations. And while liberals and radicals make up the majority, there are also a few libertarians and one or two (gasp) conservatives.

I am a very blessed woman, to know all these people. While I may not agree with any one of them about everything, I treasure them all, and I learn from them all.
