I used to have respect for the San Jose Mercury News. Not anymore.

Op-Ed piece in today's paper: The Controversy over Darwinism. I would dissect the piece for the trash that it is, but I am too disheartened by the fact that the Merc chose to print it that I don't have the heart.

I can't remember where I heard it, but I like the saying "Saying evolution is a theory is about like saying gravity is a theory."

I despair over my country: can we really have become so stupid in such a short period of time?

A little while ago, I ran a poll among people who were not on my "default view" explaining that I had cut back on the amount of time I spent reading journals, and allowing people to say whether or not they wanted to stay on my friends list. (These were all people who I would allow to read my friends only entries). If you did not see the original poll, it means you're on my default view and I read your journal.

I have pruned everyone who indicated that there was no point in me keeping them if I wasn't reading their journal, as well as everyone who could have seen the poll but failed to respond (which indicated to me that they probably were not reading my journal -- in which case, what's the point?)

If you feel you have been cut in error (always a possibility -- I have trouble telling which little box goes with which name) or want me to reconsider, let me know.

Needs:
Academically appropriate program, commensurate with D's abilities (refer to test results, esp. re: math). Should be in position for Algebra in 7th grade, if possible. Will need significant language arts support, especially writing.

Social integration: social skills support in an environment geared toward AS kids. Mainstreaming as much as possible.

Means:
Dedicated AS class if at all possible. Should we allow ED placement if other falls through? Other SDC (not AS, not ED) placements not acceptable.

Other: No summer school.

Options: aides? outplacement (is that even feasible? should ask)

Long-term goals: academic success, integration into mainstream.
