The more I thought about yesterday, the more I realized that I was scammed out of my belongings.

It bothered me that whoever took it took that specific bag, not the red bag next to it, not the bag placed in front of it by the nice lady with the kids whom we had been talking to in line. Whose child had sweetly asked if we would go in the same raft as them.

See the con? I didn't, not until later.

At any rate, if it was a scam, they got a grand total of ten dollars, a debit card I immediately called and cancelled, my car keys, a decrepit cell phone which was about to die, my driver's license and Great America passes. I don't have a credit card per se, and I don't carry a wallet, or a checkbook. If I had had been dressed as I normally am for Great America -- pants with pockets -- they would not have even gotten that. (I had my bathing suit on with a dress thrown over it because we were going to Boomerang Bay.)

Which makes me feel a bit better -- if it's a scam, rather than kids simply grabbing the bag, they are not likely to come to the house or steal the car. I'm still changing the house locks, though.
The teenager just hugged me very hard (because I said I would make tortellini with alfredo sauce and bacon for dinner). I started whining because I have the remnants of a sunburn on my shoulder. The eight year old said, "You know what, Mom? Love hurts."
