I had often heard of, but never heard, until last night, "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request." I sat in my car and howled. My son laughed too, but I know he did not get all the jokes. Heck, there were a couple I didn't get, but I got most of them.
Good news: The Mets have clinched their division.
Bad news: So have the Yankees.
Good news: The Tigers are in the playoffs.*
Bad news: the Red Sox aren't.
Good news: The As have won their division.
Even better news: the Giants are going to finish halfway down theirs, somewhere under .500.
*The Tigers were so bad last year, and the year before, and the year before that (when they made a serious run at the Mets' loss record), and the year before that. So to have them vault into first place and stay there the whole season gives hope to those of us who root for teams who have, um, less than stellar records, such as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, who have yet to end a season not in last place in their division.
