Reassurance from my LJ friends helped. An apology from one sweetie and a lovely talk with another sweetie helped. And watching LOTR with my smart-ass twelve year old helped a lot.
When Elrond tells how Isildur refused to destroy the ring, James comments: "Just like today. Everybody's gotta take home a souvenir."
Throughout the movie I had been commenting on the landscape saying "You know, there really are places in New Zealand that look like that." When the scene with the monster in the water at the gates of Moria arrives, James turns to me and says "Yes, Mom, I know: there really are monsters in New Zealand that look like that."
This kid is a lot of fun to hang out with. I figure I must be doing something right in his case...
