In Ian Croftons's Brewer's Curious Titles, I ran across a nugget of information that was wonderful and amazing. Normally, I would just go with it, figuring that Mr. Crofton's fact-checkers would catch things, but I really would like confirmation on this one. I'm having little luck: there are tantalizing hints, but nothing clear enough to say that in fact the information was correct. Google has only taken me so far, and accessing the artist's official website has gotten me nothing, as has VH1's site. (I don't look at unofficial web sites: I have no way of ascertaining the trustworthiness of the information. I assume that whatever an artist says about himself on his own website is reliable.) I think a trip to the library, and Rolling Stones' Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll, may be in order.

Does your library have a reference librarian? Ours does, and her job includes answering questions by phone and e-mail ...

You've got a whole army of LJ-friends with different skills, experiences, and access to reference materials, who may be able to help...
