I just saw A History of Violence. Very violent, but didn't seem too violent -- none of the violence seemed gratuitous or fetishistic. It was nasty violence, too, not artsy and prettied up. Gives me a lot to think about on the nature of identity and how we create who we are. Really good movie.

I had been going to see Good Night and Good Luck, about Edward R. Murrow ([livejournal.com profile] kwalton, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on that movie if you've seen it) but was distracted by The Sixth Sense on television. I watched until just after Cole says "I see dead people." I think that movie only gets richer and more and more interesting after you know the ending. And Haley Joel Osment's performance was breathtaking.

Tim and I are going to try to get out to see it tomorrow. Be sure, when I've seen it, I'll post about it.

Oh, I agree. I found the violence (and some plot elements) shocking, but not inappropriate to the story. All the way home we talked about the alternative plot explanations we'd been crafting in our heads, and about what might happen to the remaining characters after the movie was over.

I rarely see movies like that, but I'm glad I saw this one.

I'm not [livejournal.com profile] kwalton, but I have seen "Good Night and Good Luck". I HIGHLY recommend it - the plot relies on conversation and body language so it's good to see it on the big screen if you can.
