Dear Senator:
I am the mother of three sons. I am doing my best to raise good citizens. That task is more and more difficult every day.
The President has broken the law. The President has admitted to breaking the law. The President has indicated that he intends to keep on breaking the law, without any authority in the Constitution to do so.
How am I to teach my children about the importance of the rule of law, and the importance of checks and balances, when the President so cavalierly disregards them? How can I help them understand the importance of our Constitution, when the President ignores its constraints?
What do I tell my nine-year-old when he asks if the President can do anything he wants? Or my fifteen-year-old, when he expresses doubt that the rule of law still holds, since the President claims to be above it? When he says that Congress and the courts are irrelevant, since the Administration is going to ignore them anyway?
Please, please, please support Senator Feingold’s resolution for censure. Help send a message that, in this country, the laws of the land still apply to all people.
Sincerely,
