In June, both South Carolina and Oklahoma passed laws allowing the death penalty for persons guilty of sex crimes against children ....
.... thus removing the disincentive keeping child rapists from killing their victims.
Way to go, idiots.

I remember being somewhere under 13 when I learned that the death penalty was not available in cases of rape. I thought this was awful, for all of about thirty seconds, believing it was evidence that people thought that rape wasn't as serious as murder. Then someone told me that it was to keep the rapists from having no incentive not to kill their victims. Light bulb went on my head.
*sigh*
while my own personal sense of anger and desire for vengence would be to allow the death penalty *only* for people who rape children, my legal sense says no, that isn't the way to run a criminal justice system.
