In what field did Annie Jump Cannon distinguish herself?



Annie Jump Cannon was one of the premier astronomers of the twentieth century. She compiled the Draper catalog (which classified over 500,00 stars). According to the Information Please Almanac, the catalog was "One of the most significant achievements in 20th-century astronomy and the basis for contemporary theoretical understanding of stellar evolution."

Oh, and the "Woodstock" comment? My college Astronomy 101 professor used the chorus in her lecture about stellar evolution....
