My addiction

Am going through television withdrawal. Any suggestions?

American Gods by Neal Gaiman. Audio book if you have to.

Actually, I've read it three times. It is a good book, albeit a bit dark.

ok then, some other book.

Um, watch some TV would be my suggestion. It's not like it's going to rot your teeth.

Don't laugh -- I gave it up for Lent. Seriously. I know one is not supposed to talk about what one's Lenten discipline is, for fear of being boastful or hypocritical, but in this case I felt I was going out of my skull with restlessness and loneliness, and figured I could use some advice.

It actually has been an eye-opening experience for me; I've learned how much I use television to shut out other people and escape from the world in general. I never thought I would find it this hard.

Oh, I'm not laughing. I'm sorry I was disrespectful. I guess I would suggest crochet or a book or something, but I'm sure those aren't the same. Do you play a musical instrument? Or wait, you could just have conversations with me in LJ all night. :-)

[identity profile] patgreene.livejournal.com 2003-03-14 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I didn't think you were being disrespectful at all. Since you didn't know why I wasn't watching television, your suggestion made sense.

I have been reading, which helps. And I've made oodles of LJ entries today (probably annoying my friends in the process : >)

What I really should do is clean the house. But that is so not going to happen tonight.

Clean the house? At night? Sit down, woman, and let me fetch you a cool cloth; you're obviously delirious.

hee hee hee. I like the way you think : >

I figure that's why we have washer and dryer hookups in our new place -- so I can toss clothes in the washer and not have to even switch the laundry until the next day if I don't want. Down with middle-of-the-night housework, say I!

RA and I watched "Strictly Ballroom" on DVD.

What are you doing about your "24" habit?

[identity profile] patgreene.livejournal.com 2003-03-14 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, no DVD or videos, either. I have gone cold-turkey. The kids have it on some, but "Ed, Edd & Eddie" on the Cartoon network just doesn't count, in my book.

Ack! 24! That I will miss a whole lot. The only exception I am thinking of making is the Oscars, if I am watching with someone so it is a social event for me. If I would be watching it by myself I plan not to.

Play hide and seek or freeze-tag, till you couldn't stay awake to watch tv even if you could.

I'm amazed you even watch tv to begin with. As busy as you are. I'm not half as busy as you by a long shot and I find I often don't have time to watch tv. Then again, it's not much of a priority for me. I only like a couple of shows and often don't remember to watch those.

A few suggestions...

Go outside and take a walk.
Lately, I've cleaned the bathroom or kitchen.
Do some gardening during the daytime hours.
Take some pictures.
Family Game Night. Get those boys together and play a game of some kind.
Crafts--start a new hobby, or finish up something you started a while back.
All of those things that you've been putting off? There's no time like the present!

Good luck to you. I wish I had the willpower to actually succeed at something like this.
