Elizabeth Anne Bayley Seton was the first native-born American to receive what honor?



Sainthood in the Roman Catholic Church. Mother Seton, as she was known, founded St. Joseph's College for Women. She also founded the first American community of the Sisters of Charity, which grew to be twenty communities by the time of her death. She was beatified in 1963 and canonized in 1974.
