D's team (or rather the aliens that have taken over D's team) played Friday. It was a blowout -- there apparently is a twelve run mercy rule in the playoffs -- and our guys won, 16 - 2. (They even pulled off a triple play.) The umpire said afterwards that he was impressed by how well they played. The manager is in shock.
My theory is that the reason they're playing so well is that they feel they have absolutely nothing to lose. No one expects them to play well, let alone win. They're looser than the other teams who feel under pressure not to lose -- especially not to lose to our team. So the (deliberate) coaching strategy of emphasizing fun over outcomes has paid off.
So J and D both have games Monday. Fortunately, my youngest son had his last t-ball game yesterday. So the season is winding down -- a couple more games, probably, closing ceremonies. and team parties -- and all three teams have scheduled barbecues following the closing ceremony.
