My kitchen countertop seems to be developing rust spots. I have no clue what's causing it, or what to do about it. And no, Brian, I have not been using steel wool on the countertop. I am upset.

Have you been leaving cans or wet objects in continuous contact? Comet should be used on the spots...

Nope -- have been very careful not to leave cans on the counter. The spots are small -- droplet sized -- and faint. They are on the side of the counter nearest the dishwasher.

Agreed about comet, or some other cleanser with a bit of bleach in it. Sometimes I'll sprinkle it on, and then cover it with a damp towel to keep it damp and in place for a while to let it work.

Any chance it's not rust spots, but some other sort of spots? Sometimes I get stuff on the counters that's ink transferred from plastic grocery bags.
