This article reminded me strongly of the Bad Baby Names site. (Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lizw) for the link.)

(Aryan? There are actually people who named their babies Aryan?)

I work with a man named Aryan.

Which is even more amusing when you meet him, as he is a dark-haire, dark-eyed middle eastern man.

I met a kid named Aryan recently... and he was African-American.

it's a problem :)

i have to say that i do have a penchant for unusual names. in my journal i've been contemplating changing my last name to "Rose" after my divorce. unfortunately, a lot of my favorite future little girl names would make my daughter sound like a stripper: Violet Rose, Jasmine Rose... *sigh*

my favorite boy's name though, Elijah, still sounds good with it though: Elijah Rose. or, just Eli Rose. (Eli after my maternal grandfather, and heck, the power to call down 42 bears to eat one's playground taunters never hurts either ;)

Jasmine Rose sounds more like a rice to me than a stripper.

Now, if you had an unfortunate accident involving the 9-button on your phone while naming that child and came up with "Jazmyne Rose"... then you've got a stripper. :-)

*shudder*

actually, my very own neice has one of those made up names. can't stand it! i mean, i love *her* but her name was torture to learn how to spell and say. *sigh*

Maybe they were trying to name their kid "Aaron", but couldn't spell?

Sort of like how former major league baseball player Shawon Dunston's mom was naming him after the guy who used to play James Bond, Shawon Connery.

(No, I am not making this story up.)

maybe it's pronounced A-Ryan?

or

Ar-Ryan

not

Areeann
