I found one. After calling or visiting (3) every Toys 'R' Us or independent toy store in the 408, 650, 415, and 510 area codes, I found the transformer in question at...

The Target store five minutes from my house. I had looked at other Targets, but since I hadn't seen it there and had had no luck with toy stores, I hadn't checked there.

They had three of them. Wow.

[Edit: Okay, so I exaggerated a little: there were a couple of stores in Gilroy and Sausalito I didn't call. Other than that, I pretty much covered everything.]

After all, everytime something like this happens, I tell myself a) "I am never going to ggo to those extremes to track down a *toy* again"

The world hath no huntress like a mother's love :).

or b) next time I'll get my Christmas shopping done early."

Um...hahahahahahahahaha!!
*wipes tears of laughter from eyes*
No, no, I'm laughing at myself. I was very smug in November when I boasted of already having half my Christmas shopping done. I neglected to do the other half, and poor Tim paid for it tonight (and will tomorrow morning). Now, *that's* reinforcing bad habits, when my poor husband pays the price for me dropping the ball :):).

Funny, though, somehow it always works out in the end, y'know? :) We may be having the silliest, most slapped-together Christmas yet, but it's turning out to be rather wonderful.
