Bible verses....

I will be posting occasional Bible selections in my journal. To defend myself from charges of proselytizing, I will use cut-tags. These are more as aids to meditations and starting points for thought for me.



3: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5: "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
6: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
7: "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
8: "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
10: "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11: "Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
12: Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you. "

All of Matthew 5.

I like the view of these as a progression, not as a series of unrelated states. Most days, I think I am right down there in mourning.

That's what this country needs more of, voluntary private biblification. As opposed to the compulsory and civic variety.

You think maybe some of our neocon fundamentalist friends have forgotten to read it? They certainly seem to have missed the "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." part.

I've got the words and tune stuck in my head, too, but I think of it as a happy thing. We'll see where that takes me. (Hopefully, someplace more blessed.)
