I am looking to either purchase a subscription to an online service or a CD-ROM encyclopedia. Does anyone have any experience with them that they can share?

Online services are more expensive, and time-limited, but on the other hand you don't have to worry about losing the discs. Not to mention issues of platform compatibility.

Also, typing programs... anyone have experience with Mac OSX compatible typing programs?

I subscribe to Britannica.com and consider it worthwhile. I think you'd like it too. For quick dictionary look-ups online I use m-w.com.
