I'm starting with one of my all time favorite bits of useless information:

Following his incendiary performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, Jimi Hendrix (and his band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience) embarked on a tour of the United States opening for what group?

The Monkees. Yes, that's right.... Mickey, Davy, Peter and Mike. The Pre-Fab Four. Imagine, all these teeny-boppers sitting in the audience with "I love Davy" signs being hit with "Purple Haze". ... "'Scuse me, while I kiss the sky..." It's a long way from "Daydream Believer".

Which is why it failed. The Monkees were all huge fans of Hendrix -- but the Monkees fans weren't. Jimi quit the tour after just a few times of being shouted off the stage by Southern teenyboppers yelling, "WE WANT THE MONKEES! WE WANT THE MONKEES!"

Yeah, it was an integrated tour in the south. . .
