For those of you who have not had the great fortune of being acquainted with Silverstein's work, in addition to being a cartoonist and composer, he is a writer of children's books such as "The Giving Tree" and collections of poetry such as "Where the Sidewalk Ends." (My own favorite Silverstein poem is "How Not to Dry the Dishes".) "A Boy Named Sue" is very much typical of Silverstein's work, to my mind, and it is a very funny song.
