Via comments in [livejournal.com profile] jmhm's journal, a link to video of Fox reporters in the field. When Sean Hannity said "I want to get some perspective here," Shepard Smith, who had been reporting from the convention center, broke in "THIS IS PERSPECTIVE! That's all the perspective you need!"

And Geraldo Rivera was crying.

I loved the way Smith just wouldn't get into the whole Network News Delivery game. His voice was dead, exhausted, and rather than spin a tale of BS, he simply said, "I don't know."

Those three words, delivered the way they were, said more than anything else possibly could have.

I'm amazed reporters in places like this, and Somalia, and Iraq, and Aceh, don't require months of therapy after assignments. (Perhaps some do. And of course, many are miserable. I find myself very glad for Tim's family, including Freckles. Sometimes you just need dog noses.)

I remember the woman who wrote that book about the Rape of Nanking, who later committed suicide.
