Oh, like "1900's House?" I caught a few episodes of that one and "Praire House" (I think) and it was GREAT. Do you have them on DVD, or were you watching on cable or something?
"House" is a medical drama on Fox, about a doctor with a really dark view of humanity played wonderfully by Hugh Laurie, who's almost unrecognizable from his "Blackadder" and "Wooster and Jeeves" days.
Yay!! Tonight was great. I have the entire first season on DVD, and you are *more* than welcome to borrow it. Just let me know and I will get it to you somehow (not that you're *that* far away :)).
I started watching because the story line involved capital punishment, which as you know is a particular issue of mine. : ) I liked the way that they raised "what issues cause people to murder, and which can we excuse" without being preaching or coming to a conclusion, but leaving people to make up their own minds.
The overriding characteristic of the show is that not only are the diseases much more complex than they first appear, so are the characters. The writing has such depth. It must be a joy for the actors.

It took me a few weeks to get "into" it, but I LOVE House! I want to see what bonus features are on the season 1 dvd!
