What is Bloomsday, and on what day is it celebrated?
Bloomsday, June 16th, is an annual celebration of the work of James Joyce, in particular his novel "Ulysses". ("Ulysses" chronicles a day -- June 16th, 1904 -- in the life of Dubliner Leopold Bloom.) Bloomsday events in Dublin include recreating Leopold Bloom's itinerary through the streets of the city (as near as possible: several of the locatons no longer exist). Sounds like fun. Almost, but not quite, makes me want to take another stab at reading the book. (Don't get me wrong -- I liked "Dubliners" and loved "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man". It was just "Ulysses" I couldn't get through.)
