A couple of years ago, I did NaNoWriMo, which convinced me that a) I can really type a lot of words in a month and b) I don't have the attention span to create an intelligently plotted novel. The novel I did produce contained portions drawn somewhat from my real life, and would probably get me in a lot of hot water with a couple of people. It remains lost somewhere on some backup disk somewhere, and I really have no interest in resurrecting it.
However, there is a nonfiction endeavor that I've been playing with -- again, like the novel, for my own amusement, pretty much. And I'm considering using the NaNoWriMo structure -- write 50K words on it in November -- to help me get past the "I'll get this done one day" hurdle.
So, we'll see. Anyway, the main reason for doing NaNoWri mo is that all the cool kids are doing it, and you get to hang out and have coffee with them.
