Family Politics, part deux.

We are now at my Mom's house is Florida. My mom, and pretty much the rest of my family, are very conservative. They're nicer about it, generally, than my father-in-law, but the politics are similar.

My younger brother called yesterday, so we can figure out when he is coming to dinner. He works as a contractor for the state, in an assisted living facility. He was complaining that he was no longer allowed to charge for the time it takes him to write up case notes on his charges.

He made some comment about "Our Great Governor," dripping with venom, I replied, "Well, your governor is an idiot, but then ours is too."

It was is if a dam broke. "So, what do you think of my opinion that the Bushes are sociopaths?" And then went on from there. He was so relieved to have someone in the family he could talk to about politics, he didn't want to stop talking. He's coming over tonight with his partner and her kids.

It's nice not to be the only black sheep.

When her 74-year-old mother... who voted both times for Bush... says this morning, "I don't know how Bush is going to talk his way out of this one, spying on US citizens is pretty serious", that would indicate that he's exhausted the reservoir of goodwill and benefit-of-doubt, at least with one core-Bush-voter.
