I know. It's a particular American conceit that has us thinking we're sane enough not to do shit like this, but then again the past five years should have disabused me of that notion some time ago.
That said, this proposed state constitutional amendment in SD is a recipe for judicial anarchy. It's really bad news.
I think that what has happened in South Dakota is that the political direction of the state has been taken over by the RV voters. A few years ago South Dakota passed legislation allowing anyone who vacations there for a week out of the year to register and vote in their elections. This has resulted in a large bloc of conservative Republican voters coming in and taking over from the natives, voting in all manner of hardline right wing things.

There's some pretty alarming stuff happening in the UK, under a Labour Government, even.
Me, I find it depressing, especially as so many are determined to be 'apolitical', that is, cluesless and easily manipulated.
