I hate to say it, but when I did get around to writing a letter to the editor it was about baseball, albeit one of the most annoying current issues in the game: Barry Bonds's closing in on Babe Ruth's (non)record.

Sirs:

Regarding Dan Reed's article "Fans Keep Faith in Bonds Bat" of May 15, I'm sure it will come as quite a shock to Henry Aaron that the all-time home run record is still held by Babe Ruth, seeing as he hit 41 more homers than Ruth did.

Thanks. The story made me want to scream from the sheer stupidity of its mistakes -- don't they have fact-checkers on that side of the office? do neither he nor his editor know anything about baseball? -- but also because this "will Barry catch Babe?" stuff is ridiculous. Hank Aaron is one of the truly class acts in baseball, and he might as well not exist for all the mention he gets in the hoopla about this.

Also, I would loooove to have been a fly on the wall when the sportwriters got hold of that article.
