Is it my imagination, or could a person who only knows you through this rather anonymous medium, only answer in the most random or spurious way to nearly all of those questions?
If it was meant as an absurdist gesture, that's how I took it, that's hilarious but frighteningly subtle. Are you sure you aren't really Andy Kaufman?
Actually, I've met over 30 of the people on my friends list. I have socialized more than twice over the past nine months with 18 of them. Some subset of both those goups of people I consider friends based on my interactions outside of LJ. You are in the minority in that I know you only through LJ.
I did mean it tongue-in-cheek, mostly (I do worry that I complain too much : >), but it was not quite the absurdist gesture it would seem. Alas, I am no Andy Kaufman.
I find myself actually more interested in the results of my movie poll than any results here.
Of course if you really were a demented comedy genius, you probably wouldn't admit it anyway would you?
The movie was was difficult because you often as not sidestepped my favorites of old film and I kept wanting a write in choice.
If I chose right now, and of course such subjective preferences change like the weather, it'd be:
Director: John Huston. Maltese Falcon, Chinatown, Sierre Madre (did he do Key Largo?) Sure Fritz Lang was more visionary and did more to establish the language of film and billy wilder was funnier. But Huston was a real home run hitter. Plus Hitch never had sympathetic characters. His timing was amazing but when you don't ultimately care about the characters you don't get nearly as sucked in. And Capra was too maudlin.
Coolest leading man, William Powell. I mean he's funny, suave and a tough customer. He's got the everyman qualities of Tracy or Stewart, the charm of Gable and still as tough as bogart.
Kate hepburn you can't out do. Although Myrna Loy is a close second. Not as brassy but she certainly can hold her own. and just as funny.
Crooner actor: What about Dino? He sings better than either of them, is as funny as bing crosby, and almost as good at drama as Frank. How many people have the range to be partnered on film with Jerry Lewis, Frank Sinatra and John Wayne?
Dancer: Sammy Davis Jr. Sings better than Astaire or kelly, acts better and dances almost as well.
Songwriting team: Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Kahn. But I am rat pack centric and this one is so subjective that it's tough to argue.
that's my .02
I could make an arguement for Harold Lloyd above Chaplin or Keaton but I'm a chaplin man all the way!

It doesn't mean you aren't important to me as a friend.
