Can I tighten the lug nuts on the Mustang without jacking up the car?

Yes. I usually finish tightening them with the car on the ground when I change a tire.

You can prolly get away with it in so far as to from stranded someplace without a jack to someplace where you can properly finish the job with a jack.

But if you're asking if a jack is a requirement of the process, then yes - it is. Kathleen and I are out and nearby if you'd like a couple of pair of experienced hands or eyes to get you through it.

YES, I believe it is BEST to tighten lug nuts when the car is NOT jacked up.

I am not a mechanic, but I do believe that it's harder to get them really tight if/when the car is supsended... becuase the tires will keep moving slightly.

I hope it works out ok m'dear. I"m thinking of you

I do, btw, know how to change a tire. So I am happy to assist with this, I'm just not capable of making decisions about whether to jack up the car or not.

(I should be available between 5:30 and 7 tomorrow if you want me to come by)

It depends.

Are they just a little loose, or have the actually started to back off? If they have started back off (and it's more than one, if it's just one, then you can always tighten it on the ground) then you need to jack it up.

Other wise the wheel may be crooked on the bolts, and they may get damaged.
