Last night, [livejournal.com profile] brian1789 and I went to see "The 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee" at the Post Street Theatre in San Francisco. This show involves audience members -- usually as spellers -- in the performance. We were sitting in the front row.

As he was just sitting down, one of the characters, William Barfee ("That's Barfay!") looked over saw me and smiled. I smiled back. Later, during a number where they ran past the front of the stage he gave me a little wave, and I waved back. As the show went on, he kept gesturing more and more in my direction -- waves, grins, that sort of thing. Then we get to this:

"My fake mom, Monique, says my hobbies are weird. But my real Mom, Joan [points directly at me and beams], says that when I grow up I am going to be ... very handsome! and a brilliant scientist!"

A real Mom. That's me. And hey, he won the Bee, I'm so proud : )
