Hey, [livejournal.com profile] si_anemome! You saw the SF production of Rent, right? I just wrote a review of it in WWF (even though it has already closed) and was wondering if your experience was similar to mine.

i saw it in san francisco three times several years ago....mva knew all the words to all the songs by the time she was 8 years old. then i saw the movie and was extremely disappointed, mostly because of the lack of christmas bells and lines that were spoken rather than sung. and then i got all excited when i heard it was back and bought mva and i tickets for her birthday present.

she looooved it. i felt it was flat in some areas. i knew that i didn't like either the mark or the roger in this production. part of it was the way they sang...but there was something else too...and you put your finger on it.

i have fond memories of the first three productions!

I went with three Rentheads... and all three of them loved it. All of the Rentheads I know who saw the production before the movie, do not like the movie. (Something about bastardization.)

All that being said, my experience in SF was good. I have a love/hate relationship with the theater (long story) but the recent Rent production was engaging. Claire loved it & that was my goal. I spent a good portion of my time fixated on the woman next to Claire who spoke on her cell phone through part of the second act and the beyotch in front of her who was text messaging someone through most of the show.
