Had anyone seen white pumpkins in markets near to them? They had them around Halloween, but I can't find them anywhere now. All I can find are orange pumpkins, and they aren't as rich as the white ones are for baking -- even the "Sugar Baby" pie pumpkins.
Most Safeways don't have any type of pumpkins (considering how traditional pumpkin pie is for Thanksgiving, you'd think they would have something), Milk Pail and the Draeger's in Los Altos have orange pumpkins but no white. Even De Martini Produce on San Antonio in Los Altos, where I've gotten white pumpkins as late as early December in past years, doesn't have any.
I'm willing to drive a bit to buy them, if people will just point me in the right direction. I may need to drive out to Half Moon Bay if nothing else closer appears.
Okay, yes, I'm obsessive, but it's attention to detail that makes the pumpkin-date bread so good. This last batch I made with Sugar Baby and it was good, it just wasn't as rich as usual.
