Who was Frances Perkins? What government post did she hold?



Frances Perkiins was appointed to head the Labor Department by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, becoming the first woman to hold a cabinet position. Her appointment was opposed by business and labor leaders. While in the office, she promoted adoption of the Social Security Act, and advocated higher wages.
