Who was the first woman in space?

Valentina Tereshkova, who orbited the earth in 1963, twenty years before Sally Ride went into space as the first American woman astronaut. Tereshkova later married a cosmonaut and had a daughter, but she remained very active in Soviet politics and in the Soviet space program as an aerospace engineer. Biography.com.

Putting on the dog eh?

Don't you be dissing Laika now. That pooch made the ultimate sacrifice for her country, the global space program and the history of mankind. Even lassie wasn't that cool, even though lassie was a male which probably makes her/him it the most famous drag queen ever to be acceptable to middle america.

*lol*

Thanks for the chuckle. Indeed Laika was a Heroine, and Lassie was a TV "hero"!

Oh, I would never dis Laika. She was a beautiful creature, and she was sacrificed so that an entirely different species could reach for the stars.
