The House of Deputies voted to confirm Gene Robinson as bishop of N.H. It now goes to the House of Bishops -- and if it passes there, things will get *really* interesting in the Anglican world.

Also, a substitute resolution for the same-sex blessing rites has been offered: under the substitute, the blessing would be placed in Enriching Our Worship rather than Book of Occasional Services. EOW can be adopted -- or not -- by bishops individually. If it passes, neither side will be happy, I'm predicting -- the gay rights side because it will allow bishops to refuse to adopt rites for same-sex blessings, and the other side because the rites are being developed at all.

And the Diocese of Puerto Rico is now an official part of ECUSA.

I have great hope for the House of Bishops. I'm so pleased that the Deputies passed it.

This issue (I've heard off in the distance where newscasts are broadcast when I'm doing other things) has split both the Methodist and Lutheran churches.

I guess it really is a fundamental belief change. It's so abstract for me; it was never a question in my mind but that it's right and that it hurts no one.

But then, I was raised UU with a Methodist background, so that makes all hard-core religious ("unquestionable") beliefs a mystery to me.

And now we hear of some suspicipus sexual allegations emerging. Maybe someone is adopting the neo-Con principle of the little lie to stop the 'big bad' happening...

But one thing is certain in the US - there won't be governmental recognition of gay marriages any time soon. But there will in Canada... So what happens when a gay couple, legally married in Canada, moves to the US? Aren't there international treaties about respecting marriages recognised in other countries? I'm really curious about this, given the attitide of various people at high levels of the US government (and maybe the UK government, given recent events here).

I sincerely doubt that the timing of the sexual misconduct allegations is accidental.

I'm watching this with some interest. I'm not of any faith, but I do have respect for the more progressive parts of the Anglican church.

If you've never read John Shelby Spong (http://www.beliefnet.com/author/author_44.html), I highly recommend him. He was one of the first Episcopal Bishops to speak in favor of gay marriages within the church and the ordination of gay priests.
