As [livejournal.com profile] brian1789 posted this morning, our first attempt at dinner last night was, um, challenging. It could have been worse: I could have slapped the waitress -- which I came close to doing -- and spent the night in jail. I'm still shaken up.

* Our previous three trips to San Diego have involved catastrophes, almost all car-related. I had come to the conclusion that maybe we were cursed, but decided that we would be okay if we simply didn't drive our own car down. I was wrong.

I hope that waitress, and her manager, get brought up on charges - her of assault, him of illegal discrimination. They had no right to do that to David. I hope the law throws the book at them. Hard.

That said, may I recommend Riverside as a much nicer area to visit? :)

Honestly, *she's* the one who deserved charges filed. Laying hands on a customer, much less a child, is simply unspeakable. That the manager backed her up on it is... I have no words.

Many hugs, Pat, and an open ear if you want one. I am so very saddened and outraged that this was done to you folks.

I've said it before, but it's worth repeating... you two are admirable parents, and you are raising all three of your children to be excellent people.

You have much to be proud of in David. I've seen him act with incredible compassion towards others, and I've heard him speak with a heartfelt deep caring that most 12-year-old boys don't come close to managing. And I've seen him absolutely charm the socks off restaurant staff, with impeccable formal grace. He's entitled to his slow/grumpy days just like the rest of us are, and the waitress and manager blew the situation way the heck out of proportion.

Don't let those restaurant folks hand you any shame... the only shame here is their own.

I think if you would have slapped the waitress and the cops were called she would have been the one put in jail, not you.

I can't imagine how frustrating this must be for you - the situation is intolerable, but getting resolution will probably take some time. I do hope that that waitress and her manger do get the clue that their behavior was way way way out of line.

I hope David's doing OK with all of this - it's not his fault, but I can see where he would feel responsible/guilty/ashamed because of the fuss.

*hugs* for all of you, and I hope your trip home is uneventful.

Good grief! What is up with people? I got the number from Jay's comments and I'm planning on calling them today... perhaps multiple times.

Give David a hug from me, please, and come home soon! Let's do coffee this week. (((hugs to you)))

You set a fantastic example

Lots of hugs Pat. That was a totally difficult situation and you handled yourself amazingly well. You set a fantastic example to your kids of how to manage a totally difficult situation.Thank you for your example of how to stay cool in a tough situation even though you felt like doing otherwise. I admire your courage. Hugs T

I would have been tempted to slap the waitress, too. Instead, I probably would have made a big loud scene.

The waitress and manager were completely out of line.
